A place where warmth and friendship are at the heart of our congregation. Life at our church is all about growing in faith and serving others. Built in 1844 and extended more recently, Brayton Chapel is the oldest established Methodist Church in the circuit still functioning as Worship centre. The church treasures a special link to John Wesley - a chair used by him when he preached in the village.
Weekly Services and Events
Sunday - 10.30 am Morning Worship, with Prayer Fellowship beforehand at 9.45 am.
Monthly united services held with Burn and Hambleton Methodist churches. Sunday evening services are held at 6.00 pm during the summer at the end of each month.
Fortnightly Housegroup on a Tuesday evening.
On the last Saturday of the month, we host a Coffee Morning. Each month, the proceeds support a different charity. These events are an opportunity for people in the community to come into the building to relax, chat and get to know one another.
We love coming together for worship followed by a tasty meal. Some of our favourite traditions include sharing Holy Communion, followed by breakfast on Easter Sunday morning, as well as celebrating Harvest Festival, with a delicious lunch afterwards.
Each May, we take part in a sponsored walk along the Brayton canal to support Christian Aid.
Brayton Methodist Church is part of Churches Together in Selby (CTiS). This collection of churches collaborates on various initiatives, such as community events and joint worship services, to strengthen the Christian presence and impact in the Selby locality.
Our congregation
Church life is a team effort at Brayton, whether preaching, being actively involved in other ways in the services, or taking a turn on the kitchen rota.
Outreach
Members of the congregation are involved with Open the Book at Brayton Primary School once a fortnight. This is an exciting storytelling project where Bible stories are shared with children in a way that is fun and interactive.
Additional details
The building is lively through the week. Busy Bees’ Pre-school meets during term time, Monday - Friday, with the children and leaders taking part in occasional events such as their annual Christingle service.
