Eggborough Methodist Church

Refurbished in 2015, the church is bright, modern and welcoming. In addition to our worship, the main hall and upstairs room are available for a variety of activities. An ideal venue for meetings and presentations with wi-fi. Also, parties for young children. The church is fully accessible on the ground floor and has a fully equipped kitchen.
Our outreach work is mainly with elderly people to prevent loneliness and isolation in our community, but we welcome all adults to our activities and events.
Unfortunately, we do not have any activities for children because we do not have the resources or storage facilities but there are activities in the village hall.

Services and Events

Unlike most Churches, our services are held on alternate Thursday mornings at 9.30am.

Monday
Coffee, Cake and a Movie once a month from September to May. Doors open at 9.45am for a 10am start. We begin with toasted teacake or a muffin with tea or coffee. The tables are set out café style to give some social distancing. We then turn our chairs around and watch the film on our big screen. Demand is so high that we also have a matinee. Start times for the matinee depend on the length of the film. We show films that have been recently released on Blu-ray DVD. A ticket is required and the cost is £4.
Contact Brenda on 07957774101 for details.

Tuesday
Bloom Baby Classes began on 13 September 2022 and are very well-attended. There are 2 classes during the period 10am to 12noon.
Contact Josie on 07896651198 for details.

Wednesday
The Horton Wellbeing Cafe is run by Horton Housing Association from 10:00 -12:00 noon. The cafe offers a safe, friendly and supportive environment for those who are experiencing or are at risk of social isolation, loneliness and mental health issues.
They provide informal learning sessions and activities to help clients increase their confidence, develop skills, build social networks and access volunteering, training and employment opportunities. The cafes are also for those wanting to make new friends and build links in their local community.
Contact Brenda on 07957774101 for details.

Welcome Space is organised by the chapel stewards thanks to a grant from the Two Ridings Community Foundation. It will run to the end of 2025. This activity takes over from The Horton Café at 12noon and ends at 3pm. It is very informal. There are domino groups, scrabble or just chatting. Bring your knitting or crafting. It is just a sociable afternoon. We can offer digital support. A volunteer will help you with your phone, tablet or laptop. Just drop in between 1pm and 2pm. Recently, we have been having sing-a-longs and guest singers at some of these events. This is a free event with refreshments.
Contact Brenda on 07957774101 for details.

Thursday
Worship takes place at 9.30am on alternate Thursdays before the coffee morning. We are fortunate to have a pianist to play for our congregation of 14 to 16 people. Communion takes place monthly. We would love to welcome more people to worship with us.
Services Dates:

  • October 02 Our Harvest Service
  • October 16
  • October 30
  • Sunday November 09 Our Remembrance Service at 10.45am
  • November 27

Coffee Morning from 10.15am to around 12 noon every Thursday. There is much laughter and chat. Newcomers are most welcome. We realise that it may be daunting to come into the chapel and be faced with a lot of people but, don’t worry, we will spot you and come and greet you straight away.

Parish Council Meetings take place at 7.15pm on the first Thursday in the month except for January and August.

We also have other events periodically. Badapple Theatre, Pantomime, Concerts, Clothing Sales and our Christmas Fayre. Details can be found on our Facebook page "Eggborough Methodist Church".

Brayton Methodist Church

A place where warmth and friendship are at the heart of our congregation. Life at our church is all about growing in faith and serving others. Built in 1844 and extended more recently, Brayton Chapel is the oldest established Methodist Church in the circuit still functioning as Worship centre. The church treasures a special link to John Wesley - a chair used by him when he preached in the village.

Weekly Services and Events

Sunday - 10.30 am Morning Worship, with Prayer Fellowship beforehand at 9.45 am.

Monthly united services held with Burn and Hambleton Methodist churches. Sunday evening services are held at 6.00 pm during the summer at the end of each month.

Fortnightly Housegroup on a Tuesday evening.

On the last Saturday of the month, we host a Coffee Morning. Each month, the proceeds support a different charity. These events are an opportunity for people in the community to come into the building to relax, chat and get to know one another.

We love coming together for worship followed by a tasty meal. Some of our favourite traditions include sharing Holy Communion, followed by breakfast on Easter Sunday morning, as well as celebrating Harvest Festival, with a delicious lunch afterwards.

Each May, we take part in a sponsored walk along the Brayton canal to support Christian Aid.

Brayton Methodist Church is part of Churches Together in Selby (CTiS). This collection of churches collaborates on various initiatives, such as community events and joint worship services, to strengthen the Christian presence and impact in the Selby locality.

Our congregation

Church life is a team effort at Brayton, whether preaching, being actively involved in other ways in the services, or taking a turn on the kitchen rota.

Outreach

Members of the congregation are involved with Open the Book at Brayton Primary School once a fortnight. This is an exciting storytelling project where Bible stories are shared with children in a way that is fun and interactive.

Additional details

The building is lively through the week. Busy Bees’ Pre-school meets during term time, Monday - Friday, with the children and leaders taking part in occasional events such as their annual Christingle service.
