Extravagant Worship

Monthly on Saturday afternoon, 2-3.30pm

Current dates: 1st Nov, 29th Nov & 3rd Jan 2026

Led by Mark and Helen Higson. Mark is a Local Preacher and both Mark & Helen are Worship Leaders.
Helen leads worship from the Keyboard, Mark plays bass guitar and we are joined by Julian a brilliant saxophonist and Holly a beautiful young singer.

The afternoon includes worship/singing, a message, Bible reading, Testimony time and prayers and is very interactive.

We invite everyone, of all ages, to come along. Something for everyone.

Come once, come every time - no commitments, just worship. We have a craft and colouring table for anyone who would like to worship extravagantly with crayons and glues sticks! Tea, coffee, juice and cakes ongoing throughout the afternoon.

Why not join us as we raise our hands, lift our voices and open our hearts in Extravagant Worship of our Lord and Saviour.

The Upper Zoom, Bible Study, reading the Bible in community

We have two ways to try out Bible study in Howden, one is in Person on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at 3pm. Meeting together over coffee and biscuits to discuss all sorts of topics with a biblical slant.

This is repeated at 7pm on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays on-line.
This is via Teams Meetings - I know, the name came before the platform was decided!
This allows people from all over the circuit, country and even the world to join together to discuss the Bible.

You don’t need to be a Christian to participate, just have an open mind and a wish to hear what the Bible has to say today.

The first two session on 7th and 21st January will be on 'What is this Little Black Book?'
Further session topics to be decided:
4th and 18th February
4th and 18th March
1st and 15th April

Embracing Paradox: Refresh your approach to the Bible

Following on from the excellent sessions on Prayer's Beautiful Mystery during Advent, six more sessions are planned looking at discovering the beauty, wisdom, and mystery in the ancient texts of the Bible.

While the Bible is undoubtedly a source of profound wisdom, humour, captivating stories, and deep comfort, it remains a curious and sometimes perplexing book. Navigating these ancient writings can feel daunting, almost as if we’re missing a trick or doing something wrong. Yet, this sense of challenge is perfectly natural when dealing with texts that are thousands of years old.

One of the most striking features of the Bible is its abundance of paradoxes. It rarely presents truths in a straightforward, black-and-white manner. Instead, its pages are filled with apparent contradictions, statements, and perspectives that, at first glance, seem opposed, yet somehow coexist and reveal a deeper truth.

This is where our journey begins: by embracing the paradoxes rather than seeking to resolve them too quickly or choosing one side over another. When we give space for the Bible’s mysteries to breathe, we often discover surprising good news and fresh insights.

Our upcoming series, during the season of Lent, will delve into six of these paradoxes. Each session invites us to keep reading, keep questioning, and above all, keep wondering. Here’s a glimpse of what we’ll explore:

  • 25th February - Whose word is it? God's word, or human words?
  • 4th March - Is the Bible trustworthy? Is it flawless, or inconsistent?
  • 11th March - Did it really happen? Is it fact or fiction?
  • 18th March - Is the Bible clear? Or is it opaque?
  • 25th March - Is it a rule book? It is limiting or liberating?
  • 1st April - Is it relevant today? is it just written for then, or does it apply now?

We invite you to join us on this journey, 2pm at Goole Trinity Methodist Church, as we embrace the Bible’s beautiful strangeness together. By welcoming paradox and allowing space for mystery, we open ourselves to deeper understanding and renewed faith.

Reinvigorate Your Prayer Life: Embrace the Mystery

Prayer is at the heart of our relationship with God. It’s our primary means of communication, fueling our mission, evangelism, and discipleship. Prayer is the sunlight that brightens our day and nourishes our spirit, like rain that refreshes the earth.

Yet, for many, prayer can also feel difficult. It's often one of the most challenging aspects of following Jesus, not because it’s too complicated, but because it's filled with paradox. Prayer is mysterious—it’s full of things that seem both true and contradictory, much like the ever-changing British weather: sunshine and showers.

Instead of trying to simplify the complexities of prayer, we invite you to join us in seeking peace within this mystery. Let’s embrace the confusion, trust in the process, and find freedom in the questions. Together, we will explore how to pray with authenticity and feel reassured that, even in the uncertainty, there is hope.

Join us 2pm at Howden Methodist Church.

  • 12th November - Prayer as friendship: is prayer boring, or life-giving?
  • 19th November - Praying as rhythm: do we pray sometimes, or all the time?
  • 20th November - Forms of prayer: are your prayers eloquent, or silent?
  • 1st December - When prayer is hard: does God feel absent, or present?
  • 10th December - Prayers for healing: do you get answers, or no answers?
  • 17th December - Answering prayers ourselves: does God act, or do we act to answer prayers?

We look forward to exploring these questions together and finding new ways to connect with God through prayer.
